Study in Greece – Student Life

Study in Greece and Become a Graduate of the World!

Transnational Education

Study in Greece and get an internationally recognized Degree awarded directly by the leading European Universities.

IST has been designing and implementing its academic activities in collaboration with renowned foreign Universities offering undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes in Athens. The students study in Greece without travelling abroad and their Degrees are awarded directly by the collaborating Universities.

The structure, the substance and the delivery of the programmes are the same as that offered at the home campus of the collaborating Universities. The only difference is the place of delivery for the programmes.

In addition, IST collaborated with international universities on the joint design and implementation of curricula, exchange of students and conducting scientific research.

What better place to study business and learn about a global community than the country where it existed in 90BC.

It is estimated that, circa 90 B.C., about 30,000 people lived on this small island, which is no more than a dot on the map of the Mediterranean. The names inscribed on the tombstones in the ancient cemetery provide us with evidence that during the 2nd c. B.C., apart from the island’s majority of Athenian and Roman residents, Delos was populated by folk from most Mediterranean cities: from the Peloponnese and Italy, from mainland regions, Central, Western Greece and Macedonia, Thrace, the Black Sea and Asia Minor, from the Aegean Islands, Cyprus, Crete, and faraway places including Troas, Mysia, Aiolis, Ionia, Lydia, Caria, Lycia, Bithynia, Paflagonia, Pontus, Cappadocia, Pisidia, Pamphilia, Cilicia, Syria, Media, Phoenicia, Palestine, Libya, Arabia and Egypt. At this time, all these people, in spite of their varied nationalities and different historical and cultural backgrounds, managed to forge a peaceable society. They communicated with each other in spoken and written Greek, the inter-national language of the period, adopted the Greek lifestyle, lived in Greek-style houses and built Greek temples, where they freely worshiped the gods of their homelands. The islanders worked companionably and enjoyed community life, while their children played together, studied at same Gymnasium, and trained in the same Palaestrae. So, perhaps for the first time in human history, in this small corner of the earth almost all the Mediterranean peoples co-existed in harmony. (A Global Society!)The ships, arriving continuously at the harbours of Delos, carried not only merchandise but also people, news and ideas from almost every Mediterranean city. The whole world seemed like a small neighborhood ringing the sea that brought them together and brings us together. It is estimated that at the beginning of the 1st century BC, some 30.000 people were living on this little island that is no more than a dot on the map of the Mediterranean, and that it is likely that 750,000 tons of merchandise could be moved through its ports in a year.

According to the law, Colleges are allowed to enter into collaborations with foreign Universities with a view to implementing their programmes of study and awarding their qualifications. The degrees awarded by foreign Universities are recognised in Greece through the Ministerial Decree 38/2010.

In case an international student needs a student visa in order to enter Greece and the Greek Embassy rejects the relevant student’s application, IST refunds tuition fees paid, provided the candidate sends IST a copy of the rejection letter issued by the Greek Embassy.

All academic and administrative departments of IST implement an open door policy; as a result all students can easily contact IST staff. IST International Relations Office supports and gives instructions and guidelines to all international students over issues related to admission, student visa procedure, residence permit, accommodation, bank accounts etc. In addition, it provides counseling in a wide range of international student everyday issues.

Depending on the amount of money students can afford, IST assists them in renting a house or sharing accommodation, which is less expensive. In any case, accommodation depends on availability.

Cost of living heavily depends on personal criteria. However, living and studying in Greece for international students who wish to obtain a British degree is much less compared to the cost of study in the United Kingdom or in other European Countries.

In Greek shops, malls, and supermarkets you will be able to buy whatever is necessary for your studies (e.g. stationery) or for your everyday life. If you are going to rent an unfurnished flat, you will definitely have to buy some furniture e.g. bed, desk, chairs, refrigerator, electric stove, cutlery and crockery along with bed linen and towels, etc .As a result, make sure that you bring enough money to cover these one-off expenses.
It is also necessary to bring along your ID card and your passport.

According to the Greek law, international students who have received a student visa as well as a student residence permit are allowed to work part -time in Greece. Part-time employment is considered to be 20 hours per week at a maximum. Permission from local authorities is necessary.

Student FAQs

  • When is the new brand launching?

You will start seeing the university using the new branded materials from September 1, 2023.

  • What is the reason for the change? And what does it mean for the university?

We decided to change our name to Wrexham University as a move to unify us as a university to the place we are proud to call home. This coupling of place with name, is a move to strengthen the identity of the university with the community surrounding it. You will be part of something special as a student starting with us at this exciting time, as we connect with our local community and wider audiences through our rebrand.

From September 2023 along with our name change, we are launching a rebrand of the university, which centres around being rooted in community and powered by progress. The evolution of our brand reflects the transformative education we offer, along with the enormous opportunity we provide for our students.

  • Will the University’s name affect my graduationdegree or certificate?

No, the name change will not affect your graduation or next steps after university.

After September, certificates will start being issued as Wrexham University. A covering letter will be sent out with each certificate to outline the Universities name change, this will help avoid confusion for future employers.

Will Wrexham Glyndwr University or Wrexham University be on my graduation certificate?

Current certificates are still being produced in the name of Glyndŵr University.

If you complete your studies prior to the official rebrand launch your certificate will state Glyndŵr University, if you finish after, your certificate will state Wrexham University.
